SCGH G Block Plantroom Roof Replacement

TPS was engaged by North Metropolitan Health Services to undertake the replacement of the G Block Plant Room roof at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), delivering vital infrastructure upgrades while maintaining strict safety and operational continuity in a live hospital environment.

The project included the removal and replacement of existing roof sheeting and insulation, installation of new safety mesh, and modification and extension of handrails across approximately 1,200 square metres of roof area.

Given the highly sensitive location, material deliveries were carried out over four staged crane lifts, each scheduled on consecutive Sundays. These lifts required coordinated shutdowns of key hospital zones and the public piazza. Major lift studies and detailed safety and traffic management planning were conducted to ensure the protection of staff, patients, and visitors at all times.

Coordination was critical. TPS worked closely with the hospital liaison team to minimise ward closure durations and avoid disruption to clinical services. In parallel, TPS maintained constant communication with the builder working on a nearby building to ensure both projects could progress without interference.

Through proactive planning, stakeholder engagement, and rigorous safety management, TPS successfully delivered the works with minimal disruption, ensuring the hospital remained operational and secure throughout the project.
